Yoga in its least effective form is a faddish, sweat-session, with a hollow “Namaste” at the end.

Yoga in its most effective form is a uniquely customized practice incorporating breath, movement, and meditation, that leaves the practitioner feeling relaxed and nourished.

My Story

Sonia Weirich

Sonia Weirich is a 500hr E-RYT yoga instructor and educator with 15-years of experience. Sonia is training in a 4-year yoga therapy program (through 2020), she participates in a renunciate study program with her non-dual Guru, and she also holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate.

These combined experiences provide the unique energy and perspective that Sonia brings to her classes and individual client sessions.  Through the transformational art of applied yoga, Sonia helps students and clients deepen their awareness and broaden their perspective in body, emotion, mind, and spirit.



Viniyoga is a form of yoga where breath and mindfulness play a central role, guiding and inspiring each movement.  Poses are explored through repetitions and stays, symmetry and asymmetry, as well as adaptations to meet particular needs.  Sequences are designed for safety, strength and flexibility in addition to restoration, relaxation, and meditation.

There are four characteristics that distinguish Viniyoga from other styles of yoga. They are: movement with breath, repetition and stay, function over form, and asana sequencing. Here is a summary of each characteristic:

Movement with Breath

The breath impacts all systems of the body and in yoga it serves as the medium for movement. This creates a fluidity of motion that connects the mind, body, and spirit. While in a pose the breath is used to enhance the effect of the pose on the body and in meditation the breath serves to deepen the experience.

Repetition & Stay

Done in concert with the breath, moving in and out of a pose prepares the body to stay in the pose and more effectively receive the benefits of the pose. Repetitions increase circulation to muscles, re-patterns movement habits (neuromuscular reintegration) and helps relieve pain. The stay in a pose after the muscles have been warmed up facilitates greater flexibility and strength.

Function Over Form

The purpose of a pose is to serve the practitioner and not to look a certain way. Thus the emphasis is on the function of the pose (i.e. stretch in the low back) versus the form of the pose. Appropriate form will vary from person to person based on individual needs and abilities.

Asana Sequencing

Sequencing is important for performance and safety. Detailed principles are used in designing each sequence of poses. A sequence will prepare the body, stabilize vulnerable areas, balance imbalances and restore the body back to neutral. Such asana sequencing increases safety and prevents injuries.

Discover the Art of Meditation

Whether you are looking to find more peace in your life or are ready to transcend the self altogether this series will introduce you to the art of meditation as well as practices that will meet your intention. Over the course of four weeks various types of meditations will be explored as will the stages of meditation. Physical movement, mindfulness and breath awareness, will be explored as preparation for meditation. Each week you will go home with a practice to engage and in the end you will have the tools to establish your own meditation practice. Meditation cushions and chairs will be provided.
